  Wednesday 15th January 2025

Miles14.16 Miles

Elevation Gain 148 feet

Total days walking 71 (excluding the swcp)

Total mileage 1567.14 (including the swcp)

After a very comfortable night at the Durham Hotel & a beautiful sunrise we tuck into a great breakfast, freshly cooked by Ian who is very cheerful singing away to the radio in the kitchen all for an absolutely fantastic price of £54.00!

0824 we set off on our route to Middlesbrough, The skies are clear, off along the promenade we go with an icy wind blowing in our faces soon turning off into a wetlands area with a frost on the ground & past the first golf course of this trip, The sun is low in the sky straight in our faces, off to the side in the distance we can see a behemoth of a structure, an old oil rig poking its drill tower up above the mountain of tailings.

As we get closer the old & new are laid together, new wind turbines laying alongside the oil rig from the Shell, Brent -C oil field now being dismantled & recycled.

Soon we glimpse the first sight of the old transporter bridge across the river Tees now disused making our walk a lot longer!

Now stopping to admire the engineering of giant of the transporter bridge towering up into the clear blue sky continuing on past some very barky dogs!

Industry is now prevalent & our walk is dominated by factories, chimneys & the river Tees.

Crossing the Tees over the Newport bridge & back along the southern side of the Tees a better view of the river & the factory units, Some of the buildings are shaped like Chinese pagodas possibly Chinese manufacture in the uk? Leaving the river bank we turn off through a dinosaur park with huge steel dinosaur structures.

Back by the transporter bridge southern side where our walk ends for the day we stop our Strava & head off into town to find some food & our accommodation.

Tesco shop done we go into My Karak Chai for a drink & some food, we order an English breakfast tea a mint tea & a vegetable samosa, Well the samosa comes in a dish broken up with a creamy sauce which was very tasty,  the mint tea has milk in it & a full English breakfast arrives! But no drink.

After a conversation, misunderstanding a cup of tea arrives with frothy milk, it's different.

We then head off to our accommodation a room in a student house a nice room with private bathroom & shared kitchen, very quiet & adequate for our needs.
