England Coast path part 62 Middlesbrough to Marske By The Sea

After a peaceful night  in the student house we set off & make our way back to the Transporter bridge, Its a cold bright sunny morning and the pavements are slippery, once back at the bridge our Strava is started & we are on our way, Past a sign 34 miles to Whitby which is on our route but not our final destination!

Today we are finishing at Marske-By-The-Sea but in the meantime we have mileage to cover passing the old wall of the salt mills then on under the ''Temenos'' a public art work by Anish Kapoor.

Next we pass Middlesbrough football club main entrance following the path around the stadium before soon turning off over the railway & into a frozen wilderness.

Following the path parallel to the train track there is a detour to a viewing point where the river Tees can be viewed with the Transporter bridge visible in the distance. Detour done, not sure it was worth it.

The sun is warm the ground frozen solid as we continue along the path trapped between the railway & industry, stopping for a brief coffee at a convenient bridge support in the sun which is warm. 

Mile after mile we follow the only path we can & then a flood covering the path still trapped we have to paddle through one then two then three flooded area's, with slightly damp trousers the path escapes the railway turning off through a wooded area then open grassland before coming out onto a main road which we follow, the path diverted due to major engineering works we soon come to Redcar & a sandy beach, Quite a vibrant town we stop & take some lunch in a small café, Jacket potato with tuna & salad was tasty not so the hot pot, a very tasteless bland dish but a good cup of tea.

After our lunch we have a stroll into town & pick up some supplies in Morrisons. Making our way back to the esplanade which we follow all the way to Marske-By-The-Sea which is our destination for the day.
