England Coast Path Cromer to Lower Kenning North Norfolk Part 34

Distance 8:56 Miles

Elevation Gain 637 Feet

Time 2:58 Hours

We kept checking the weather forecasts for one we liked but inevitably couldn't find one, they all forecast rain. We head down the road to catch the 08.11 coast hopper bus to Cromer on time & we are off on another day walking, We are already wearing waterproof outer garments ready for walking, the bus journey is quick & we are at Cromer.

A short walk to the pier

And we are off, as we walk along the esplanade we can see & hear the waves crashing in over the sea wall, the beach gets wider revealing soft golden sand & pebbles.

A sharp left turn following the coast path up the hill. Walking next to but away from the road we follow the Acorn's cutting diagonally through a field until we are walking along the side of the road, not too far its a right turn onto the cliff tops behind holiday caravans, the sandy cliff edge is collapsing & it looks like one of the vans has met it's death & has gone over the edge with the erosion. Again following the road, further this time then back into a caravan touring site with a very useful clean toilet, now relived we carry on along the grassy cliff edge

The Jurassic coast

we carry on along the grassy cliff edge up over Beeston hill, a massive 210 feet up & over.

On the flat heading into Sheringham past a little putting green with some young boys really exited about to play a round. Down the hill & steps into Sheringham now at sea level walking along the sea wall with a group of sea shanty singers.

More promenading then up steps through some formal gardens past a lake for radio controlled model boats then onto the edge of a busy golf course which seemed rather dangerous with golf balls coming in all directions!
Once we are at the top of the hill we stop & break open the flask of coffee & a sandwich. Taking in the views down to the North Norfolk steam railway line watching trains puff along.

We are still ok with the weather dry & overcast no rain yet But.... as we leave the cliff tops heading down onto the shingle beach it starts to spot on us, only light but enough to dampen everything, continuing along the pebble beach with the odd patches of grass to break the strain of pebble walking we come to the end of our walk.

The guns ready for invading troops

Route

We follow the muddy path we came in on on the previous day taking us back to road & a recommended café called the reading rooms. Rather damp we enter the café, remove our wet coats & order some cake.  Yes we can also recommend it.

It's still raining but with Just a couple of miles back to the cottage it won't be too bad. Hoods up heads down we walk on visiting the little church of St Mary the Virgin on route, over the railway bridge & we are back.
