England Coast Path Burnham Overy Staithe to Wells-Next-The-Sea North Norfolk Part 32

 Distance 7:23 miles

Elevation gain 71 feet

Time 2:47

Another day another Guest. Today we have not only the pleasure of my brother Nigel but his wife Maria joins us.

Be careful where you park your car, Warning signs make people aware but if you don't heed them...

The route from Burnham Overy Staithe takes us over the marshes towards the sea, vast expanses of sea lavender provide a restful backdrop, with scarlet poppies, white cow parsley and other wildflowers providing yellows, pinks and purples.

Bright sun overhead and a sandy path under our feet. The path continued closer to the sea, through sand dunes, a small frog, sand martins, swifts, cormorants, and various gulls keeping us company.

In the distance we could see horses exercising on Holkham beach. The signs took us away from the dunes on to a board walk towards Lady Anne's Drive. Time for a break, quite expensive but a very nice coffee and hot chocolate and an opportunity to make a start on lunch! The walk continued along a sandy path, with occasional shady patches and information boards and we ended our day at Wells beach.

We bumped in to Jill (from Holt buffet on the railway) and her husband Martin. The tide was out and the vast expanses of beach were dotted with gulls.

A quick visit to the new lifeboat station gave us the chance to see how the names of those in whose memory donations were made were incorporated in to the numbers on the lifeboat.

Just in case anyone is unsure of what should & should not go into a toilet this is the sign from the Holkham estates toilet.
