England Coast Path Hunstanton to Burnham Overy staithe North Norfolk Part 31

Distance  16:45miles

Time 5:40 minutes

Elevation gain 357 feet

So today we are back on the ECP, another special day as we have another family member as  a guest walker, and a little different as we have  jumped up the East coast to North Norfolk, we are making use of two cars as public transport links are not too good.

We checked out the weather and did quite a bit of umming & arring as thunderstorms & heavy rain were forecast.  Having found a forecast that we liked we decided to go!

A bit of on the hoof planning, we managed to park one vehicle right on the path at our planned finishing point, (Not literally) but very close. Also a bonus free! The second car (our starting point) was planned to be in a car park at £9.00 for the day but we also found free road side parking what a winner!

Cars parked, we head down the hill to the coast & our starting point for the day conveniently next to some very nice clean public conveniences which we all made use of.

The Three musketeers fresh & ready to walk

So it's a warm day with a  grey cloudy sky we start our walk along  the coast path under the multi coloured cliff face.

Very easy walking flat & well sign posted, making our way up the easy cliff steps to the top & across flat & grassy clifftop plains. Walking along side a golf course we find golf balls that had been mis hit off the course into the long grass throwing them back onto the course to confuse the golfers.
The path becomes a gravel surface easy to walk on a nice satisfying crunch under foot.

A satisfying crunch under foot

A little further on we pass the site of Seahenge & it's sister
Now on display at Lynn Museum

Sea Defences & signs

The path changes to a solid red clay

Following the signs the Coast path takes a turn inland for a mile & a half we walk uphill away from the sea, This does not feel right but come to a sign turning left into fields past a farm with some very large machinery
& shortly after turning back towards the sea down into Brancaster where we  stop on a bench near the church for lunch.

Just as we are packing away our lunch things it starts to rain only very lightly continuing along the road before we turn off onto a footpath which is signposted with a diversion due to damaged board walk across a marsh, Knowing what diversions can be like & with plenty of signs that the board walk is still well used we set off along it. But then the spots of rain get bigger & our waterproofs are put on, we get soaked in no time but continue to carefully cross the damaged boards.

The rain stops & we slowly dry out walking along the levies with an abundance of wild life, Nigel is a keen twitchier & tells us the names of many birds some of them not seen but identified by their tweeting & twittering sounds, we have seen a great variety of birds, butterflies, bees, frogs, slugs & flies.

The route as you can see it comes away from the coast!

The end of our day & we are all still smiling
