An early start trying to avoid some of the heat of the day. On the road at 7.00 a short walk from our air B & B to the pier head turning right continuing along the sea front nice flat walking, the sea calm not quite a mill pond with the daily swimmers making small ripples as they move through the water.
We now turn slightly inland to navigate the river Blyth via a pedestrian bridge about a mile inland, passing a row boat ferry (closed) we joke that by the time we have walked up and over the bridge it will be open, (but it's not)
We continue along the beach (on pebbles) & are ambling along when Lesley sports a tiny arrow way down off the beach, a lucky spot which directs us into beautiful wetlands across board walks & bridges takes us a good few miles past old abandoned Suffolk windmills.
Continuing along a metal road past dingle cottages then like an oasis the most lovely little café.
Great coffee, great eggs & beautiful surroundings what more could you ask, after yesterday's café desert. Fully fed watered & revived we continue.
Right on the cliff edge though lovely woodland past the last grave (see photos) then out Into heathland (Dunwich heath) I think it's the most beautiful heathland I have seen, it's a no dog zone, so that may be why?
Sizewell now well within our site but you know how it is, big things take a while to get past but obviously we do pass it, as it fades away behind us, the sun now hot & humid a pub/café loom into view a pit stop drink and crisps are downed, with only a couple of miles left to go the path climbing up onto the cliff top a breeze blowing takes the heat down & before you know it we are here, Thorpeness golf club and hotel, home for the night.
A very helpful lady checks us in & as we are leaving early before breakfast service we request a take out breakfast. She organises it leaving notes for the night porter & kitchen.
Although adequate the room is tired & in need of a refit, the shower cubical has mastic lifting & water damage to skirting boards & the toilet bowl is cracked, So refreshed its off to the bar for dinner. The beer is good! but food quality & selection poor as they have run out of quite a few items.
And so to bed.
Awake early, not a good nights rest as the room as hot & no ac meant we had a fan running. All packed up we go to see the night porter a very cheery man who gives us our take out boxes & offers hot drinks. The sandwiches although well packed in environmental friendly boxes look ok from the outside we find that the box is probably more edible than the contents so it all gets recycled!
