England Coast Path Part 4 Seaford To Eastbourne

Here we are again a beautiful sunny day out on the path again, This time Seaford to Eastbourne a fairly hilly section Past  the old Coast Guard cottages quite a famous film location, Through the Birling Gap & over the seven sisters crossing the Cuckmere meander.

This was the highlight of this section (We were lucky the tide was low) was removing our boots & wading through the river where it flows across the beach. This saved us having to walk up the Cuckmere estuary to cross at the road bridge.

 While we were drying off & putting our boots back on a nice friendly dog decided that Derek would make a good towel & shook it's self dry on him.

We finished our day of walking at the pier head & made our way home, Another beautiful day of walking complete & a few more steps taken towards our goal.

England Coast Path Part 3 Saltdean Lido to Seaford

Saltdean Lido to Seaford

So we are keen, Just one week later & we are back! walking the South Coast from Saltdean Lido to Seaford.

We are using Plot-a-Route & google maps to plan distance & convenient transport links. We don't have the luxury of having a vehicle at each end of the walk like we did on the https://swcp-chronicles.blogspot.com/ so public transport has to be available.

For those of you eagle eyed followers you will have spotted the fact that we have not actually finished the SWCP but the final part will be finished by the end of October 2021.

The views are glorious with the White chalk cliff tops capped in brightly coloured wall flowers & the blue of the sea in contrast against them. With the faint line of the path we have covered just visible.

The crumbling cliffs leaving the fence posts hanging in mid air are a stark reminder of how fragile our little island is to the rising sea levels & effects of global warming. (perhaps the coast path will get shorter😏)

So the tables have turned the fence is now supporting the posts!

One of the fence posts still has the supporting concrete hanging on to it.

 The route is well signed even with alternative routes pointed out.

We had to walk into Newhaven to cross the river via the swing bridge but again the weather was just perfect for walking & there were no unforeseen incidents along the route.

England Coast Path Part 2 Shoreham By Sea to Saltdean Lido

Shoreham By Sea to Saltdean Lido

The plan has now been hatched ''so'' we want to make it reality, we head off to the South Coast to walk another stretch of the coast. 

We start where we left off at Shoreham By Sea heading off East towards Saltdean lido an art deco building with a crescent shaped pool. https://saltdeanlido.org/brief-history

A beautiful day for walking, light clouds & a cool breeze blowing in off the sea, We walked along Brighton's famous sea front, passed the old & new piers, passed the bandstand purchasing an ice cream form one of the outlets (The most tasteless ice cream ever🍧)

Finishing our day in Saltdean by Whitecliffs Cafe then off to catch the bus back to our starting point in Shoreham By Sea.

England Coast Path Part 1 Worthing to Shoreham West Sussex

 
So if you have been following https://swcp-chronicles.blogspot.com you will know that Derek Lesley Martin & Marina walked the south west coast path in bite sized chunks which we started at Easter 2017 in Minehead Somerset walking  to Poole in Dorset finishing in October 2021 walking a total of 660 miles.

While Martin & Marina hung up their boots for a rest Derek & Lesley continued walking (not intentionally) along the south coast.

It Started with a day trip to Worthing......

So, here we go......

Worthing to Shoreham West Sussex

It was a Tuesday, the day looked nice & without a plan we thought we would take a trip to Worthing West Sussex to take a stroll along the sea front & take in some fresh air. 

After a few miles of walking we were thinking of turning back & then 💡 A light bulb moment! Busses, we saw busses,  travelling to where we had started from.... We can walk further & get the bus back, Genius idea so we carried on for as you can see 11.59 Miles & a convenient bus stop.

  

The Bus journey back to Worthing was inspirational, We have, as you know we walked the South West Coast Path https://swcp-chronicles.blogspot.com with our friends Martin & Marina & this 💡 moment on the bus came to us, why don't we walk the coast path around Britain? so the idea was borne...
